Gluten-free Transparent Finger Paint

This is a shiny, transparent paint that can be used on wet or dry paper. Leftover paint lasts about one week if refrigerated.

What's needed

1 tablespoon (1 envelope) unflavored gelatin

cups water

1/2 cup cornstarch (gluten-free)

4 tablespoons liquid dishwashing detergent

Natural food coloring

Natural flavored extracts

Let's make it

In a bowl, soften the gelatin in a 1/2 cup of water. Pour the cornstarch into a pot and add 2-1/2 cups cold water. The cornstarch should dissolve. Simmer and stir until thick. Take the pot off the heat. Or, microwave the mixture at medium setting for 2 minutes, stir, and microwave again at medium setting for 2 minutes. Add the gelatin and then the dishwashing liquid to the mixture in the pot. Let it cool. Pour into small containers. Add food coloring and flavoring. Cover and store at room temperature.

When mixing paint, keep in mind the age of your young artist. As a general rule, younger children require thicker paint and brushes. Adjust water as necessary for your child.
