What do kids need to succeed? The statistics are sobering. What kids really need are adults who care, and guidance in obtaining healthy developmental assets to become productive happy adults, and stay away from unhealthy behaviors that can destroy their lives.
An extensive study involving 250,000 student in 600 communities spread across 33 states with parents from all walks of life found that children having more of the developmental assets listed below were more likely to stay away from unhealthy behaviors. The mix of assets were less important than the number. The assets provide the structure and emotional security a child needs to overcome challenges when they encounter them. What is important is that parents can directly provide 32.5 of the 40 developmental assets studied (Safety is only partially provided by parents).
4MyLearn is dedicated as a resource to assist parents, children, and teachers in gaining these developmental assets for our children.
